A solemn flag propped up near the entry to Lawless Senior High in New Orleans is the only sign of life these hallways have seen since Hurricane Katrina hit in September 2005.

As a traditional New Orleans funeral mixes joy with sorrow, the future of the city remains a contradiction of hope and fear.
