Cracks in garages are grounds for complaints

With several campus parking spots blocked, it may be a little harder to find a place to park.
Lennis Pederson, associate vice president for administration and director of facilities management, said that as of Tuesday, 51 parking spots on campus were blocked off due to construction and routine maintenance.
He said 31 stalls were blocked off in the parking garages so cracks in the deck could be repaired, and the spots will continue to be blocked for a few more weeks.
“Other parking stalls blocked off will change by the day,” Pederson said.
Pederson said some parking areas, like the lot northeast of the Murphy Building on Florence and Burt Streets, are not being used.
“The large parking lot west of 30th Street can easily handle 100 more cars,” he said.
More spots are being constructed at 20th and Burt Streets and will be available after fall break, according to the current construction schedule. There also will be parking spots added near 17th and Webster Streets.
“When the building is remodeled into offices over the next many months, a parking lot will be constructed for the facility,” Pederson said. “This will give relief to other parking lots on campus.”
Pederson said it is hard to say what spots will be blocked and how long they will be unavailable.
“It is very likely that some stalls could be blocked off on any given day,“ he said. “The very busy and vibrant campus requires certain inconveniences such as blocked-off parking stalls.” |
