New CSU execs have gaps to fill
Congratulations
to Arts & Sciences juniors Eric Nitz and Molly
Boyle for being elected as Creighton Students Union’s
next president and vice president for Student Affairs,
respectively.
Since
1922, CSU has acted on behalf of the students,
serving as a link to communicate their interests
and needs to the university.
Communication
was the foundation upon which CSU was built. However,
it remains one of its shortcomings. Despite attempts
to increase the exchange between CSU and the students
it represents, CSU has often fallen short.
Many
students are not familiar with what CSU is, what
it does or how to use it. The newly elected representatives
need to strive to bridge the gap between the organization
and the students it represents.
The
connection between students and their government
is not a one-way street. Students also need to
take the initiative to utilize the organization
that is there to serve them. CSU will be able to
better serve its purpose if students communicate
their needs.
As
CSU enters its 84th year, let us all take an active
role in making it a productive year that yields
benefits for all students.
