Benson housing offers more

While many students have made the industrialized Tip-Top Apartments or Old Market Lofts their home away from home, several students have embraced living in the Benson neighborhood. With affordable houses and quaint apartments, Benson has a variety of housing options for young adults.
Business senior Kevin Morris moved to the Benson area a couple of months ago and can already tell the difference between Benson and other off-campus housing options. Not only does he enjoy the friendly and helpful neighbors but has also realized that rent is a lot cheaper than living elsewhere.
“At a place like Tip-Top you are looking at over $500 a month whereas in Benson you can find rent will be around $300-$375 a month at the most. Secondly, it’s far enough away from campus to where you feel that you are getting away from school when you go home, but at the same time close enough to where it is not a hassle to go to class every day.”
John Kamp Arts and Sciences senior, has lived in the Benson neighborhood for over a year now. Besides favoring a change from the usual downtown scene, Kamp appreciates how everything is so close. “I like how everything that you could need is just a few blocks away. It’s an easy walk to say the breakfast café or hardware store and even the bars are just within a few blocks of our house,” Kamp said.
Benson also offers a sense of community. Both Kamp and Morris said they have gotten to know several of their neighbors and enjoy visiting the local Benson businesses such as Jake’s Cigars & Spirits, a cigar and wine shop.
“We have been able to get to know everyone that works there and it is a great place to just stop by and grab a quick drink,” Kamp said. “You are able to meet a lot of people in there that you would not be able to meet in the Creighton community.”
